The SLR McLaren looks particularly long/stretched at the front? I mean it only houses a supercharged V8, but it looks long enough to fit a V12 or V16.

Kinja'd!!!

It's just been bugging be for a while since it can look kinda awkward at certain angles

a) Styling
b) 50/50 weight distribution. The V8 sits waaay back in the engine compartment.

It's technically a front-mid layout, so the V8 sits entirely behind the front axle.

Isn't a C7 Corvette front-mid with a V8? Yet it still looks fine

Not sure. Could be due to the size of the V8. I know the LS series of engines are usually pretty small in physical size due to being pushrod engines.

Could also be due to the construction of the car and/or packaging.

Could even just be that the designer wanted it that way.

a) heh "styling"

b) lots of car with front mid layouts, with 50/50 weight distribution, AND with bigger engines aren't particularly stretched (ie the 599 with it's V12)

It is because of the massive air box they used. . . But seriously, that motor is so far back it is just silly.

I think it was mostly styling. Also to justify the price they should have used a V-12.

For such a long car, Aston definitely did it better

Like many others have said it for styling and weight distribution. And as for the corvette .... I think to be technically front mid, the engine needs to be behind the centerline of the wheels. Mercedes has a tradition of shoving all the way behind the front wheels.

Why are you mad though? Its just added sex ....

wow, it's interesting how the One-77 has a larger wheelbase. It must be because of the wedge at the front and the large ass which make the SLR look strange.

Funnily enough, I also found out that the DB9 has a longer length and wheelbase than the SLR. Must be the positioning of the cockpit then...

The SLS to me looks perfectly fine, maybe because of the lack of a wedge-like front.
The SLR reminds me of a moving pencil.
And the Daytona is exempt as it's based on the Cobra, and you know, racecar.

So maybe I'm just a natural SLR hater...
